Functional Fitness

Functional is designed to stretch and strengthen the movements you perform on a daily basis, whether its at home or at work or whatever you do for a living, functional fitness combines exercise with daily activities.

This type of training will help prepare your muscles for anything your do during the day, and it focuses on upper body, lower body, and also core stability.

Functional Fitness Activities:

-Help individuals function better in their homes, workplaces, and can be valuable in rehabilitation or physical therapy

-Specific movements are key to functional fitness training

-They emphasize the development of the neuromuscular system and motor abilities

-They must be performed with a focus and emphasis on technique, rather than being fatigued

-EX: stability balls, resistance bands, medicine balls, balance boards, Pilates, and yoga

Training your body to optimally perform each daily activity can help you be more productive, and feel stronger by the end of the day. Functional Fitness is also convenient because you don’t need a gym, you can get some equipment at home or exercise without any equipment, depending on your current strength and motor abilities.

If you just can’t seem to get to the gym a couple times a week/month, try a yoga YouTube video, or any other core stabilizing/upper & lower body strengthening exercises that you are familiar with. It is important to move a little every day to keep your joints active and healthy and to prevent any premature aging.
